Genetic Improvement

With more than 4,000 varieties, the world’s most complete sugarcane Germplasm Bank is in CTC’s hybridization station in Camamu (BA), where the company carries out breeding targeted at each of the country’s sugarcane producing regions. Rigorous inoculation tests are carried out in order to select only the varieties known to be
resistant to the main diseases. The company also employs advanced biotechnology techniques to identify desirable characteristics by analyzing the DNA of the varieties. Modern biotechnology is also present in the genetic transformation systems, which have already produced insect-resistant CTC varieties.
